Most of the products we buy in shops, supermarkets and online feature a variety of symbols on the back of the packaging, or on the product itself to tell us what it’s made of, how and where to dispose of it. Some of these symbols might be familiar, but do you know what these symbols mean?
Möbius Loop
This is the most recognisable recycling symbol, originally designed by Gary Anderson who entered a competition by the Container Corporation of America. The Möbius Loop symbol can be used on any product that can be recycled but does not necessarily mean it has been made from recycled material. It might appear with a number, indicating that a percentage % of the product contains recycled materials.
The Green Dot®
