The FA spending more on prize money would be so much more valuable for society, as a message of equality, than any ‘gameplan for growth’.

Of course the pledge to address the gender pay gap is a welcome move from the governing body - after mounting pressure and widespread protests from fans - but the women’s game as a whole should be reserving judgement until some hard numbers are made public.
This is not about equal pay. I have never heard anybody in women’s football ask for equal salaries to their male counterparts in the Premier League or the EFL. Rather, this is about prize money - something the FA can control.
The FA have an opportunity to send out a very powerful message to women’s football around the world, that the game is truly valued. To give women’s winners the same prize money as men’s winners would send such a positive message that men and women are treated equally.
And yes, it’s true, the men’s competition attracts far larger audi...
